Grief changes

Wall reprises visuals of verticality throughout.  In an illustration that evokes medical illustrations of the skin’s layers, Wall depicts the layers of grief as it is “overwhelmed by global catastrophe…where outlines are erased, landmarks are lost….everything is dragged back roaring into the sea.”  Here, the lines are sketchier, the pressure of her pen lighter. Wall’s comic deploys composition and form beautifully to capture the iterative nature of grieving, her strokes replicating mourning's immersive and gravitational force.
