Brittany Mostiller and Lily Taing, "My Voice, My Choice"
On the first page of her short comic, the profiles of Mostiller and her young daughter dominate the page. Mostiller hugs her toddler daughter close. Her body pushes beyond the borders of the narrative panel, extending into the rectangle above. The act of parenting exceeds our plans. It cannot be compartmentalized.
“My Voice, My Choice” tells Mostiller’s story. When Mostiller, 22 and the mother of three daughters, realizes she’s pregnant, she knows from the beginning that abortion is the right decision for her. The problem is finding the time off from work and the money.
