Survival of the fittest
Taylor thinks carefully about these choices. Her first visit, with Charles Darwin, takes place on an ocean voyage, as Darwin steers them toward an island with fantastical creatures. Together, Taylor and Darwin observe a sheep with spiky hair and antlers and a giraffe-like creature with a curly neck and a gaping mouth that mirrors the shape of the flower it stretches to eat. In this sequence, Taylor tells Darwin that “survival of the fittest” is unfair. “Whoever said it’s supposed to be fair?” Darwin shoots back.
