M.K. Czerwiec, Taking Turns

Taking turns : stories from HIV/AIDS care Unit 371

Czerwiec’s cover captures the author/protagonist at her hospital job, between patients.  With her stethoscope around her neck, chart in hand, she stands in front of a series of closed hospital room doors. Like Taking Turns itself, once opened, those doors contain multitudes, including the stories of the HIV patients who lived and died at Unit 371 at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, where Czerwiec began her nursing career in 1994. Taking Turns chronicles Czerwiec’s experiences working with these patients in Unit 371.
