Marbles, Ellen Forney
Forney’s book begins with a single page crowded with text. A close look reveals one phrase: “Let’s take a look at symptoms.” The words pile on top of each other, repeating again and again. It’s chaos. We learn that for Forney, these symptoms add up to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder just before her thirtieth birthday.
When Forney elects to draw, instead of relying only on words, there is clarity.
