Fore-edge Painting
Used as decoration on a book fore-edge painting is prcatice done when a books fore-edge is painted on, starting out as a way for people to put identification onto the books they owned fore-edge painting gradually became an artform and by the 17th and 18th century it became common practice. During ths time fore-edge paintings became very elaborate and painters were able to create unimaginable paintings on an edge of a book. This fore-edge painting is of Worcester Cathedral on a Maser prayer book in written in French.
