Popeye and Olive Oyl

Popeye comics is considered a classic staple of comics history and early animation. The iconic pairing of Popeye consists of him and Olive Oyl. Popeye is represented as a big-muscled, spinach loving sailor and Olive Oyl as his sassy girflfriend. In the comics she is considered a sassy and brash woman that fights for and with Popeye. She is family focused and close with the other Oyls but adores Popeye and is possessive of Popeye and jealous of other women. In this scene, Popeye gets agressive and chokes Olive Oyl when she argues with him about his fathers behavior. This physical violence and threatening occurs throughout the romantic relationship scenes in E.C. Segars most famous comic series. The depiction of the relationship varies but shows both parties yelling at each other, having physical altercations, and perpetuating toxic standards in a relationship.
