Amazing Stories 1970s
The issue July 1975, volume 49, number 1 was illustrated by Stephen Fabian and the August 1979, volume 52, number 4 issue was illustrated by Elinor Mavor. In the 1970s issues, there was a lot of astronaut and mechanical robot imagery as well as depictions of other worlds.
The July 1975 issue was set in space with a robot depicted from the shoulders up as well as a woman seemingly standing on one of his shoulders or floating in space. While the August 1979 issue depicted a man in a silver suit holding a silver mushrrom shaped object in his hand on a desert planet. In the background, there is fire next to half of a man's head peaking over the horizon line with yellow glasses blocking out the eyes along with a bee floating in the space of one of the eyes.
The 1970s was a tense time for the world with the Cold War and Space Race. Both issues seems to draw inspiration from this in different ways. However, the idea of space and other worlds that have yet to be discovered are common in both. The space race was reaching a close during the 1970s, so it was likely on a lot of people's minds and the news.
The Marvel character, Silver Surfer, seems to have been a possible influence for the August 1979 issue. Though Silver Surfer originally came out in 1996 and ran until about 1970. However, the character continued to be featured in Fantastic Four and The Defenders comics through the 1970s, keeping the character relevant and popular.
