Welcome

Welcome to the digital exhibit Affirmation: Stories from Methodism's LGBTQIA+ Caucus. More information on Affirmation and the exhibit is below. The side navigation can be used to view each of the exhibit's themes.

Affirmation

Affirmation is a support network for LGBTQIA+ people and a caucus in The United Methodist Church. Since the mid 1970s Affirmation has worked for the full inclusion of all United Methodists regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Some of the stories from Affirmation's nearly five decades of work are told in this exhibit through six themes: Celebrating, Trials, Mourning, Outreach, General Conference, and Resistance.

What is a caucus?

Caucuses in The United Methodist Church are groups that advocate for their interests to the denomination. They are unofficial in the sense that they are not created or organized by actions of The United Methodist Church, but they are nonetheless important and influential in the development of legislation through their advocacy. As a caucus, Affirmation has represented the concerns of LGBTQIA+ people in the denomination.
