Inscription notes this copy was presented to a sister as a
token of affection in 1843. Within the pages of this book
were five small body feathers of a Scarlet Macaw. Possibly the feathers of a beloved pet.

Scrapbook piece Shaw family

One of its owners transformed this book into a scrapbook. The endpapers
are stuffed with pasted-in newspaper clippings noting poems, articles, and
deaths. The surname ‘Shaw’ appears in many of the clippings, as well as
a hand drawn tombstone noting the death of two members of the Shaw

family.
