Description
This book studies the life, habitat, and behavior of the Amphibious Carnivora, more commonly known as seals. The various sections include detailed drawings of these marine animals, as well as the occasional skeletal sketch of their anatomy. Illustrations of different types of seals and marine animals accompany themes of zoology and natural history during the 19th century. There are mentions of important figures in the field, as well as a memoir of M. Francois Peron, a significant naturalist. The book includes descriptions of the Amphibious Carnivora, their comparative anatomy, habits, capture, products, and seal trade, as well as information on related aquatic creatures such as walrus.
