A comedic novel, the last of the picturesque novels written by Tobias Smollett. Written as a collection of letters. <br /><br />First edition. 3 Vols. 12mo, contemporary full tree calf, later labels. With the erroneous date “MDCLXXI” on the title-page of Volume I. This has long been offered as a point of “First Issue,” but as has been pointed out in A Primer Book of Book-Collecting, by Winterich and Randall, New York 1946, there are two distinct editions with the error on the title-page. Priority between these two has not been established. A fine copy, with an original blank leaf at the front and back of the first two volumes, and in a handsome and well-preserved binding. Three volumes, brown leather with gold markings.
