After some time, Samuel felt it was safer to move and hide in the attic of their grandfather’s factory. The family remained hidden there for several days with no sanitation facilities. \r\n\r\nUpon entering Złoczów, many Ukrainians welcomed the Nazis. In the coming months, several waves of violence, murder, and deportations occurred between July 1942 and November 1942. On December 1, 1942, a ghetto was established in an area of dilapidated houses. Between 7,500-9,000 Jews were forced into the small ghetto. By April 2, 1943, the ghetto was liquidated, and those remaining were shot or deported.
