<em>The Complete Poetical Works of Edgar Allan Poe</em> : With Memoir by J.H. Ingram and Account of his Death by N.P. Willis. Published by Chicago-Donohue, Henneberry, and Co. This special edition has a memoir of Poe’s life by J.H. Ingram and account of his death by N.P. Willis, an associate of Poe’s. Publication date is unknown. The cover is silver and blue patterned. Inside cover contains a handwritten note:“Jessie I. Graham. Christmas 1898 From Ruia”. Printed on the spine is a simple title” “Poe’s Poems”. Sections are organized into “Poems and Essays,” and “Poems Written in Youth”. Poems are introduced by a chapter on “The Poetic Principle” and “Poe’s Preface to the Poems”. Poe introduces his work negatively, writing: “In defense of my own taste, nevertheless, it is incumbent upon me to say that I think nothing in this volume of much value to the public, or very credible to myself” on page 160.

Published by William Heinemann in London 1898. Cover is teal blue with an imprint of tulips on the front. The title is in gold at the top. Title, author, and publisher information is on the spine. First story is the classic gothic tale, <em>The Turn of the Screw.</em> Next is <em>Covering End. The Turn of the Screw</em> was first published in serial in Collier’s Weekly Magazine. This edition was the first time in which it appeared in full in a published book. In the story, a governess receives a new position to oversee two children, and becomes increasingly convinced that the grounds where they live are haunted. Things are not as they seem, however. <em>Covering End</em> is a lesser known tale that James converted from his one-act play, <em>Summersoft</em>.

Jonathan Swift's classic fictional account of the journeys of Lemuel Gulliver. Written as a satire of human nature and of popular traveller's tales. This edition is part of the Everyman Library collection. The cover is red with gold lettering. Published by J.M. Dent and Sons in London and by E.P Dutton and Co in New York. <em>Gulliver's Travels</em> was first published in 1906, and this edition was published in 1940. The book contains images of maps of the fictional territories described in the novel, including “Lilliput”. The maps are interspersed throughout chapters, giving readers background knowledge on the locations that the characters travel to.
