motive was a progressive magazine published by the Methodist Student Movement from 1941 to 1972. motive covered issues like spirituality, globalization, war, politics, women, LGBTQ+ equality, and artistic expression from a progressive standpoint that often went against the stances of mainstream Methodism.
Through opinion pieces, features, and interviews, the magazine addressed pressing topics, cultivated active engagement, encouraged dialogue, and promoted progressive Christianity. In addition, motive magazine prioritized artistic expression by celebrating creativity and talent through the inclusion of fashion spreads, photography, artwork, and literary pieces. By highlighting these artistic works, the magazine allowed readers to appreciate and support the creativity and diverse perspectives of individuals, reinforcing the richness and depth of their contributions to the broader cultural landscape.
